Coming Attraction / Ouroborix /

Ouroborix is a collaboration between the artist Virginia Wagner and myself. The site should be up sometime next month, whence you can explore the project more in-depth. Until then, the looped serpent is cloaked in darkness and remains a mystery...

untitled / le visage d'un garçon /

This is from a series of new works called 'le visage'. When creating them, I take found images that I then appropriate by overlaying video portraits. This particular video will be on exhibit at Fountain Studios in Brooklyn, NY from February 4 - March 3, 2012.  There will also be an opening reception for the show on Saturday, February 4th from 7pm - 10pm.

Muriel Guepin Gallery / White Fantasy /

White Fantasy is a collaboration between artist Béatrice Coron and myself. Coron created delicate renderings of the circus in four beautifully hand-cut panels and I created figures that mirror the archetypal stories of carnival from eastern Europe and named them accordingly: "Medvěd Na Koni Tříkolka" (Bear on Tricycle), "Ratolest Člověk" (Twig Man), "Lev" (Lion).

We had a great time putting this together and installation day was quite silly. I flew down from the Vermont Studio Center in the middle of an a residency to install the show. It was a whirlwind trip but the results were well worth it. A big thank you to Muriel for arranging the collaboration. The show will be up through February 26, 2012.

Residency / Vermont Studio Center /

I am in residency at the Vermont Studio Center this month. It is a beautiful place to be - surrounded by nature. I will be here from October 23 - November 18. Below are some images of what I'm working on here as well as some altered landscape shots. The large Scale 6' drawings are a new thing for me. I have never worked this big, it's very freeing and really makes me move from one side to the other - arms outstretched. I've met some really incredible folks here, too: Erin Fitzpatrick, Virginia Wagner, Jeffrey Kenney, Amy Mckay, Dex Fernandez, Bonnie Lane, Tom Dunn, David Livingston, Libby Barbee, Sarah Horne, Beatrice Wanjiku Njoroge, Yoshihide Nakajima, Keeley Haftner, Just to name a few.

Installation / Mr. Boddington's Studio - National Stationery Show 2011 /

Mr. Boddington, a long time friend, asked me to create a booth for him again this year at the National Stationery Show. This year's booth design was inspired by old post offices from the turn of the 20th century and small English villages across the pond. From hanging signs, a hand painted Mylar window, post-box, and a messenger's bike there are plenty of details to hold one's attention and still leave room for wonder.  All of the booth's pieces are designed and hand crafted by myself and made from paper materials, primarily foam-core. The splendid stationery belongs to the keen eye, wit and charm of Mr. Boddington, ofcourse. And that Cardinal well, he's as free as a bird. Thank you to Rebecca and Jessie for bringing me on the project. It turned out smashingly!

Installation / Blue Tree - White Horse /

Recently I was asked by the store Blue Tree on the Upper East Side to create a window for their second floor. Phoebe and Ivana wanted to create something eye-catching and different and bring attention to their second floor which showcases some of the worlds top indie clothing designers. More specifically they wanted to highlight the launch of a new clothing line by Irini Arakas of PROVA, famous for her dazzling scarves.

PROVA's bold patterns and playful fringe influenced many of my design ideas. I imagined the kind of woman who would be drawn to them. They would have to be as strong as the patterns, wild and creative, but also sophisticated. Horses for me symbolize beauty, elegance, strength, and also mystery. I imagined this magnificent dress in a minimal setting surrounded by supporting props, all in white, carried by a magic white horse modeled after a vintage toy with tall white cactus framing the tableau. Phoebe and Ivana loved the idea and so I set off to work in my studio to create the white horse.

The project also required that text be added to the wall by the steps that lead up to the second floor, Something that would visually draw people up to see the beautiful clothing on the 2nd floor. I asked my good friend Emily Snyder of Queen Quills Calligraphy (pictured below with a sequined cap) to fly out to New York from freezing Minneapolis and help with the project. She used her killer-quill-skills to create the wall text. Not only did it solve the second floor dilemma but it also looks stunning.

A month later it all came full circle and it was finished. I installed this window with the kind help of Matthew Farina. It will be up through August so...if you are strolling the Upper East Side stop by and check it out. The store is full of wonderful gifts and beautiful treasures to behold!
